Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the use of space in the works of Agatha Christie and to identify her stereotypes, and then to analyze the relationship between fictional space and character within this framework. Agatha Christie is an English novelist, short story author and playwright who was born in 1890. Her works are on crime fiction, which is a sub-branch of horror fiction. The author, who travels frequently, has created detailed descriptions of space design concepts by creating recurring characters such as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple in different geographies in her works.

While the author handles the space-character relationship in a multi-faceted way, she used space as an instrument that contributes to the fiction of the work and strengthens it. Within the scope of the research, the countries where her works took place, the traditional places she chose to convey them to the reader, the types of places on the east-west axis were tried to be determined qualitatively and quantitatively and analyzed comparatively.

The artist has depicted both real and imaginary places in his works. Cities such as Burgh Island, London, Cairo, Istanbul, regions such as Chamonix in France, Montreux and Andermatt in Switzerland, well-known places such as King's Abbot and Hyde Park in England are real ones, and regions such as the land of Herzoslovakia, St. Mary, Lymstock, The ones that take place in geographical locations such as St.Honore Island can be given as an example of the imaginary ones.
