Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between pathological gambling addiction and psychological symptoms, impulsivity and self-control in adults. The population of the study consists of individuals between the ages of 18-65 living in TRNC. 523 individuals determined by random sampling method were included in the study. Study data were obtained through the Personal Information Form, South Oaks Gambling Screening Test (SOKTT) Brief Self-Control Scale, Barratt Impulsivity Scale and Brief Symptom Inventory (KSE). The data were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 package program. In this study, it was concluded that there was a statistically significant and negative relationship between individuals' gambling addiction scores and self-control scores. However, there is a statistically significant and positive relationship between individuals' gambling addiction scores and psychological symptom and Barrat impulsivity scale scores. In addition, while there was a positive, weakly significant relationship between gambling addiction and the motor impulsivity and attentional impulsivity of the Barrat impulsivity scale, a negative and weakly significant relationship was found between it and the non-planning subscale. The study also concluded that there is a statistically significant and negative relationship between individuals' self-control scores and psychological symptom and Barrat impulsivity scale scores. Finally, the study found that the psychological symptom scale anxiety subscale and self-control scores predicted gambling addiction.
