Investigation of the Relationship Between Intolerance of Uncertainty, Decision Making and Anxiety in Romantic Relationships of University Students

The aim of this study, which was conducted with university students, was to examine the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty, decision-making and anxiety in individuals with romantic relationships. The population of the research consists of individuals over the age of 18 who are in a romantic relationship, residing in TR and TRNC. The sample of the study consists of 268 women and 126 men, totally 394 people selected by the purposeful sampling method. Socio-Demographic Information Form, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (BST-12), Decision-Making in Relationship Scale (ICVS), and finally, Anxiety Thoughts Inventory (BDI) were used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was a significant relationship between Intolerance of Uncertainty and Anxiety Thoughts Inventory (p<0.05). At the same time, a significant relationship was found between Intolerance of Uncertainty and Decision Making (p<0.05). However, there was no significant relationship between students' Decision Making in Relationship and Anxiety Inventory (p>0.05). It was observed that the scores obtained by the students from the BBL dimension of anxiety for the future did not predict their BSI scores at a statistically significant level. However, the scores they got from the BDI disabling anxiety dimension predicted their BDI scores statistically significantly and positively. The results of the research show that the problems experienced in romantic relationships can be caused by many different reasons and as a result may cause pathological disorders such as anxiety. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the studies to be carried out in this field and to carry out studies on larger and more comprehensive samples.
